Okay, I tried making my own vitamin C gummies using gelatin and ascorbic acid powder for the first time. I followed a recipe online (1/2 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, 1/2 tsp vit C) but my gummies ended up super tough and rubbery. What did I do wrong? Any tips for a chewy but not hard texture? Also, how do I avoid that weird aftertaste? Thanks!

Hey! I've been making my own for a few months now. A couple things: first, make sure you're not overheating the gelatin - low heat only! Second, vitamin C is acidic and can break down the gelatin. Try adding a pinch of baking soda to neutralize a bit. Also, for aftertaste, use a strong juice like orange or lemon, or add a drop of stevia. My last batch came out perfect using @GlowGigi750's method. What exact ratio did you use?

Ah, the classic gummy fail! I've been making gummies for years, and I learned the hard way: the amount of gelatin matters. For a softer chew, try 1 tbsp per 1/2 cup liquid. Also, if you're using agar agar for a vegan option, it's a whole different ballgame - needs higher heat and different ratios. For that funky taste, I add a tiny bit of citric acid powder and some honey. My go-to recipe: 1/2 cup juice, 1 tbsp gelatin, 1/4 tsp vit C, 1/2 tsp honey. Heat juice, dissolve gelatin in cold water first, then add to warm juice, then stir in vit C. Let set in fridge for 2 hours.

I'm all about natural and eco-friendly, so I use organic ingredients. Has anyone tried using agar agar from seaweed? It's trickier but works great. Also, I'd avoid plastic molds - use silicone. For the rubbery issue, it's likely too much gelatin or overcooking. I agree with @FitnessFanatic116 on low heat. And if you want to reduce aftertaste, try using a little bit of natural mango or pineapple juice - they cover the vitamin C flavor well. Oh, and I always add some turmeric for color and anti-inflammatory boost! Good luck!
