Help! My kid thinks Vitamin C gummies are candy!
Okay, so I bought these Vitamin C gummies from the health store, thinking they'd be a great way to get my 5-year-old to take his vitamins. Big mistake. Now every time I turn around, he's sneaking into the pantry and eating them like they're candy. Yesterday I found him with a handful and a big grin. I'm worried he's going to get a stomach ache or overdose or something. Any tips? Also, has anyone else dealt with this?
Oh man, I've been there. My 7-year-old did the same thing. I had to put the bottle up high in a cupboard and only give her one a day. Those gummies are too tasty! But seriously, check the label for how many to take. Overdosing on vitamin C isn't super dangerous, but it can cause diarrhea and stomach cramps. Maybe hide them better or get a lockable container. Also, you could try explaining they're medicine, not candy. Good luck!
I'm a college student on a budget, so I buy those gummies sometimes when I'm low on fresh fruit. But yeah, I've definitely eaten like 10 in one sitting because they taste just like gummy bears. They're not cheap, but I think they're safe in moderation. For a kid, maybe buy a brand that tastes less sweet? Or mix them with actual vitamins that are harder to chew? Just a thought.
Thanks for the replies! I'll try hiding them better and maybe get a lockbox. @CrystalCathy810, you're right, I need to be more strict about the one-a-day rule. @DynamicDan, I might try a different brand that doesn't taste as good. But honestly, my kid is like a little detective, he'll find them anywhere. Might just switch to chewable tablets instead.
