THREAD: My toddler thinks vitamin C gummies are candy - hilarious/terrifying story!Started by OP

Okay, I need to share this before I lose my mind laughing (and panicking). My 4-year-old found my bottle of vitamin C gummies on the counter yesterday. I turned around for TWO SECONDS to answer the door, and when I came back, he had the bottle open and was happily munching away like they were Skittles. He ate like 5 before I caught him! He kept saying 'More candy, mommy!' and I had to call poison control just to be safe (they said he'd be fine, just might have some... interesting bathroom trips). Anyone else have kids or spouses who can't tell the difference? My husband refuses to take them because he says they're 'too chewy' and get stuck in his teeth. Men.

OMG, that's why I ONLY buy sugar-free gummies! Regular ones are basically candy with vitamins. My kids had the same issue until I switched to a brand with no added sugar - they're less appealing as a 'treat' but still tasty enough that my picky eater will take them. Also, try keeping them in a high cabinet or locked box. Poison control calls are no joke! What brand were you using? Some have way more sugar than others.

First, glad your little one is okay! Second, this is why I advocate for vegan gummy options - many conventional ones use gelatin (animal-based), and they tend to have that super-chewy, candy-like texture. Vegan gummies (with pectin) often have a different mouthfeel - slightly less 'sticky' and might not be as tempting to mistake for candy. Also, no animal exploitation! Have you considered switching? I can recommend some great vegan vitamin C brands that are less appealing to tiny candy thieves.

LOL, I feel you! Not with kids, but I work night shifts and keep my gummies in my locker. My coworker thought they were my 'secret snack stash' and ate half a bottle once. Had to explain they were supplements, not Haribo. As for texture - I actually PREFER the chewy ones because they're easy to take during my 3 AM 'lunch' break without water. Maybe try a different form for your husband? Tablets or powders might work better if he hates the gummy texture. But yeah, keep them out of reach of tiny hands (and clueless coworkers)!
