THREAD: Are Vitamin C Gummies Just Candy or Actually Beneficial?Started by PurePete49

Hey everyone, I've been seeing these vitamin C gummies everywhere lately. As someone who pushes hard in Crossfit 5 days a week, I'm always looking for ways to boost recovery and immunity. But honestly, they look like candy to me. Has anyone actually noticed a difference in energy levels or fewer sick days after taking these? Or am I better off just eating an orange and saving my money?

Great question, Pete! From a holistic perspective, I approach vitamin C gummies with caution. Many commercial brands are loaded with artificial colors, sugars, and fillers that counteract any potential benefits. I recommend looking for organic, plant-based options with minimal ingredients. Personally, I make my own elderberry-ginger gummies with rosehip powder for natural vitamin C. The body absorbs nutrients better from whole foods, but if you're going the supplement route, quality matters more than the gummy form itself.

I feel you on the candy concern, Pete! As a mom trying to get my kids to take their vitamins, gummies have been a game-changer. We use a brand with no artificial sweeteners, and my little ones actually remind me when it's 'gummy time.' For adults, though, I think it depends on your lifestyle. If a tasty gummy gets you to consistently take your vitamin C when you wouldn't otherwise, that's a win. Ellen's DIY idea sounds amazing—maybe I'll try that next!

Thanks for the input, both of you. Ellen, your point about fillers makes sense—I'll check labels more carefully. Yara, I hadn't thought about the consistency angle. Maybe I'll give a clean brand a shot for a month and see if I notice any difference in my post-workout soreness. Has anyone tried timing them around workouts? Like before or after?

Pete, for workout recovery, vitamin C supports collagen production, which can aid muscle repair. Timing-wise, I'd suggest taking it with a meal to enhance absorption and avoid stomach upset. Pair it with some healthy fats and protein post-workout. And Yara, if you try making your own, I'm happy to share my recipe! Just remember that heat can degrade vitamin C, so low-temperature preparation is key.
