Vitamin C Gummies = candy? I swear my kids eat them like skittles!

Ok so I try to eat pretty clean (paleo-ish, no refined sugar). But I've been eyeing vitamin C gummies because I hate swallowing pills. Then I looked at the label and WHOA. 3g of sugar per gummy?! And you're supposed to take 2-3? That's like eating a fun-size candy bar. How is this a supplement and not just candy with a vitamin thrown in? I feel like the whole gummy trend is just turning us into kids who need everything to taste like dessert. Anyone else bothered by this? Or am I being too extreme?

I hear you, Cathy. I grew up taking real vitamins from a health food store—nasty tasting, but you knew it was serious. Now everything is a gummy. I get that compliance is better when it tastes good, but at what cost? My grandson takes these 'immune support' gummies and I swear he'd eat the whole bottle if left alone. That's a red flag. There's a reason they say keep out of reach of children. I'll stick to my capsules, thanks.

Yo, I get the sugar concerns but let's be real: most people don't stick to pills. I used to choke on horse pills and gave up. Switched to gummies and now I actually take my C every day. That's a win. And btw, many brands use tapioca syrup or cane sugar but only like 1-2g per gummy. If you're that worried, there are sugar-free gummies with stevia or monk fruit. Yeah they cost more but it's an option. Also, some 'gummies' are actually pectin-based, not gelatin, so vegan too. Don't knock it till you try it.

Thanks Guru, I didn't know about the sugar-free ones. But even those often have maltitol or sorbitol which can mess with your gut. And honestly, the whole point is that we're teaching ourselves that nutrients have to be candy. That's a slippery slope. Next thing you know there's a broccoli gummy. Oh wait, that exists. I'll look into the sugar-free ones but I'm still skeptical.

Cathy, I agree about the slippery slope. And Guru, you make a fair point about compliance. But let's not pretend these are health food. They're a compromise. If you need the taste to take them, fine, but be honest about it. I just worry about kids thinking vitamins are candy. That's how you get overdoses. Sorry to be a downer, but someone has to say it.
