Vitamin C gummies on the go... melt? TSA? help a stressed traveler out
Hey all, I'm hopping on a red-eye flight to Phoenix next week for work, then a 3-day hiking trip in Sedona right after. I usually keep a tub of vitamin C gummies in my carry-on because I swear they keep me from getting sick when I'm run down. But now I'm worried: will they melt in my bag? And does TSA care about gummies? I don't want to be THAT person holding up the security line. Any tips from frequent flyers?
Ooh I literally just got back from a road trip through the Southwest and brought my vitamin C gummies with me! I kept them in a small glass jar instead of the plastic tub and put it in my insulated lunch bag with a cold pack. They didn't melt at all, even when the car got hot. But if you're hiking in Sedona, be careful — the sun is no joke. Maybe keep them in your daypack's inner pocket, not the mesh side pocket where they'll bake. Also, TSA didn't even blink at mine. I just put the jar in a clear zip pouch with my other liquids-ish stuff. Hope that helps! 🧘♀️
Bro, I've flown with gummies like 50 times. TSA doesn't care about vitamin gummies unless you're carrying like a gallon bag of them. They're solid, not liquid, so you're fine. But melting? Yeah, that's real. I left a bottle of C gummies in my car once and they turned into one giant gummy blob. Had to cut it with a knife like a weird fruit roll-up. For hiking, throw a silica packet in the bottle to absorb moisture and keep it out of direct sun. Also, if you're caffeine-loading for hikes, don't forget electrolytes — gummies alone won't cut it. 😂
Thanks both! The glass jar + cold pack idea is genius, Mila. And Vince, the giant gummy blob visual made me laugh — noted on the silica packet. One more q: do you think the altitude change on the plane messes with them? I've heard protein bars puff up and stuff. Probably overthinking it but I'm a planner. Also, any brand recs that hold up better in heat? Mine are the generic ones from Costco.
Haha you're not overthinking, I wondered the same thing! I think as long as they're sealed tight, altitude is fine. I've never had an issue. As for brands, I switched to a pectin-based one (not gelatin) and they seem to stay firmer in warm temps. Can't remember the name but it's the one in the green bottle at Whole Foods. Costco ones are tasty though! Just maybe double-bag them in a ziplock in case they get sticky. Safe travels and enjoy Sedona — the vortexes are unreal. 🌵✨
