DIY Vitamin D Gummies – Tried agar, got a mess. Help!
So I tried making my own vitamin D gummies at home with gelatin and vitamin D powder, but they turned out super chewy and kinda separated. Anyone have a foolproof recipe? I'm hoping to get my kids to take them without fighting lol.
Ugh, gelatin is not vegan! Please try agar agar instead. I've had success with 1 tbsp agar powder to 1 cup juice, heat and stir, then add vitamin D powder once it's cooled a bit. Pour into molds and fridge for an hour. They come out firm but not rubbery.
I've tried both. For gelatin, make sure you bloom it first – sprinkle over cold water and let it sit 5 min before heating. Also, add lecithin as an emulsifier so the vitamin D oil mixes in. I use 1 tsp per cup. That keeps it from separating.
Dude, save yourself the hassle and just buy gummies. I get the Solgar ones and cut them in half for my toddler. Homemade is fun but time-consuming. My first batch was a disaster too – felt like eating erasers.
Thanks all! Might try agar with lecithin? I want them vegan for my oldest. @MindfulMila303, do you add any sweetener? I used a bit of honey last time but the kids said they tasted weird.
