Hey everyone! I tried making my own vitamin D gummies at home using gelatin and some vitamin D powder I got online. I followed a recipe I found on Pinterest, but they came out super rubbery and weird tasting. Did I use too much gelatin? Any tips for a softer texture? Also, is it safe to use vitamin D powder meant for capsules? Thanks!

Sam, I've been down that road! The rubbery texture usually means you used too much gelatin or didn't bloom it properly. Try using 1 tablespoon gelatin per cup of liquid, and let it sit in cold juice for 5-10 mins before heating. Also, vitamin D is fat-soluble, so make sure you have a little oil or lecithin in the mix to help absorption. Oh, and for taste, try adding some lemon juice or honey! 📸

Honestly, I'd be cautious about making your own supplements. You don't know the exact dosage per gummy, and vitamin D can be toxic in high amounts. Also, those powders might not be formulated for gummy-making—could affect stability. I'd stick to store-bought from reputable brands, especially when it comes to kids. Sorry to be a downer, but safety first!

Great points everyone! I've made homemade gummies before, and here's my go-to recipe: 1/2 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, 1 tbsp honey, and 5 drops of liquid vitamin D. Avoid powder if you can—it doesn't dissolve well. Also, use agar agar if you're vegan, but it sets firmer. For soft gummies, try reducing gelatin a bit. And Lily's right, measure your doses carefully! I use a dropper to add precise amounts. Keep experimenting!

Thanks all! I think the powder might be the issue—it clumped up. I'll try liquid D next time and adjust the gelatin. Lily, I hear you on safety, I'll be more careful. Greg, thanks for the lecithin tip! I'll give it another shot this weekend. 😊
