How much vitamin D is too much? That news article got me thinking…

Just read the article. As a retired nurse, I’ve seen too many folks pop supplements like candy. The article is right: more isn’t always better. For D, the upper limit for adults is 4,000 IU/day unless your doc says otherwise. I stick to 1,000 IU in my gummies and get sun when I can.

I take 2,000 IU a day because I run a lot and don’t get much sun in the winter. Never had issues, but I get blood work every year. My doc says that’s fine for me. I think it depends on your lifestyle and levels.

I make my own gummies at home, so I control the dose. I go with 1,500 IU. But I also eat a lot of fortified foods. The article’s point about consistency is key – better to take a moderate dose daily than megadoses when you remember.

Wait, those high-dose gummies I got at Whole Foods are 5,000 IU! Should I stop taking them? They taste like orange candy, so I love them… But maybe I’ll switch to a lower dose? Help!

Jenny, 5,000 IU is okay for some, especially if you’re deficient, but it’s near the upper limit. I’d check with your doc and maybe get a blood test. Better safe than sorry! In the meantime, you could take one every other day.
