My kid thinks my Vitamin D gummies are candy!
Okay, so I just found my 5-year-old scaling the counter to grab the bottle of Vitamin D gummies. I hid them in the top cabinet, but she's determined. She calls them 'lemon candies'. I'm worried she'll OD or something. Any advice on kid-proofing these things? Also, she hates the texture of the chewable ones, but these gummies she loves. It's a paradox.
OP, definitely keep them in a locked cabinet or high up where she can't reach. You can also get a child-resistant cap bottle. But honestly, the bioavailability of gummy vitamins is lower than capsules or liquids. Maybe consider switching to a liquid vitamin D drop for yourself and keep the gummies out of sight. As for texture, I've found that different brands have wildly different textures—some are softer, some are like gumdrops. Try a few brands.
Lol, my boyfriend does the same thing. He's 30. He'll munch on my vitamin C gummies like they're candy. I had to hide them in my nightstand. But for kids, yeah, lock 'em up. If she's refusing other textures, maybe try the chewable tablets that dissolve quickly? Or those little vitamin patches? I know, not gummies, but at least she won't think they're candy.
My kids went through a phase where they'd only take gummies. I started cutting them in half to make them last longer. But yeah, the candy confusion is real. I now buy a brand that tastes kinda 'healthy' so they're less tempted. Also, I let them have a 'vitamin time' where they can earn it as a treat so it's not forbidden fruit. Good luck!
