Vitamin D Gummies - Unexpected side effect? Actually good!
Hey everyone, I started taking Vitamin D gummies about a month ago to help with my sleep issues (I'm a night owl trying to fix my circadian rhythm). But here's the weird thing - my sleep hasn't changed much, but my skin is looking AMAZING! Like, I haven't had a breakout in weeks and my complexion is way more even. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought Vitamin D was just for bones and sleep?
OMG YES!! I had the same thing happen! I started taking them for seasonal blues last winter, and my skin totally cleared up too. Vitamin D is actually a hormone that regulates SO many things - it helps with inflammation, which can reduce acne. Plus it supports skin cell growth and repair. I take 2000 IU daily with K2 for better absorption. What brand are you using? Some have better bioavailability than others!
Interesting! I track everything with my health apps and wearables. When I added Vitamin D gummies to my routine (for immune support during flu season), my stress metrics actually improved on my Oura ring and Whoop strap. Lower resting heart rate, better HRV. Maybe the skin thing is related to reduced inflammation like GummyGuru said? Have you tried pairing it with a collagen supplement app? There's one that syncs with Apple Health...
As a runner, I take Vitamin D for bone health and recovery. But now that you mention it, my skin does look better since I started! I train outdoors a lot, so I thought it was just the 'healthy glow' from running. Could be the gummies though - I take them post-long run. Do you take yours with food? Absorption is better with fat. Also, has anyone noticed improved mood? That's another unexpected benefit I've read about.
Wow, thanks everyone! @GummyGuru123 I'm using the Nature's Way brand, 1000 IU. Maybe I should up the dose? @FloraFinn847 I don't track that closely but my Apple Watch does show better sleep scores lately (though I don't FEEL more rested). @CrystalCathy I take mine with breakfast which has avocado toast, so good fat there. The mood thing is interesting - I have been less anxious lately but thought it was just placebo effect!
