THREAD: ACV Gummies - Are we just eating candy disguised as supplements?Started by PlantPat149

Just saw these ACV gummies at the store and checked the label - 3g of added sugar per serving! What's the point of taking apple cider vinegar for health if you're loading up on sugar? I make my own ACV tonics at home with raw honey and lemon - no weird additives. This 'candy-fication' of supplements feels like we're being tricked into thinking we're being healthy while actually just eating junk.

I hear you PlantPat, but as a mom of two toddlers who hasn't slept through the night in 3 years, I NEED the convenience. I tried the liquid ACV shots before and nearly gagged every morning. These gummies? My kids think they're my 'special candy' and I actually remember to take them. Yeah there's some sugar, but if it means I actually get my supplements in, isn't that better than nothing? Also - B12 for energy is a lifesaver when you're running on 4 hours of sleep.

Interesting debate! As someone who cooks a lot, I see both sides. The purist in me agrees with PlantPat - you lose some of the raw benefits when you process ACV into gummies. But Gigi's got a point about compliance. I use both - liquid ACV in my salad dressings (great with olive oil and mustard), and keep gummies in my gym bag for when I'm running between my restaurant job and cooking classes. The beet root in these actually gives them a nice color, reminds me of pickled beet recipes I make.

From a yoga/wellness perspective, I encourage my students to be mindful about what they put in their bodies. These gummies can be a gateway for people new to supplements, but they shouldn't replace whole foods. I recommend starting with small amounts of liquid ACV in water (with a pinch of cayenne for digestion!), then maybe use gummies when traveling. The sugar content does concern me though - that's where the 'candy' comparison feels valid. Maybe look for brands with less added sugar or natural sweeteners?

GlowGigi - I get the convenience factor, truly. Maybe try mixing liquid ACV with a little pure maple syrup? Still sweet but less processed. RhinoRich - love that you use it in cooking! Claire's gateway point is interesting... maybe these gummies get people started, but we should all aim to 'graduate' to purer forms. Still feels like companies are capitalizing on our desire for quick fixes though. Wish they'd make a truly low-sugar version!
