THREAD: Saw a study about valerian root in kids' sleep aids - legit or biased?Started by MindfulMila759

Hey all, just came across this study (PMID: 12345678) about valerian root in children's sleep supplements. It claims valerian might not be as effective as advertised for kids under 12, and raises questions about long-term use. I'm considering Nested Naturals Luna Kids for my 8-year-old who has trouble winding down, but now I'm second-guessing. Has anyone else seen this or have thoughts? As a busy pro, I don't have time to deep-dive into research bias, so appreciate any insights!

Thanks for sharing, Mila. I lean minimalist and prefer fewer ingredients, so I've been eyeing this product too—valerian, chamomile, lemon balm seems clean. I skimmed the study; it's from a decent journal but funded partly by a pharma company that makes prescription sleep aids. Could be biased toward pushing meds over naturals. That said, I'd still start with low doses and monitor. Maybe try chamomile tea first? Less is more.

Oh wow, this takes me back! I blogged about herbal remedies years ago, and valerian was always a hot topic. From what I recall, studies on kids are limited—most research is on adults. The nostalgia hits hard here; we used to trust grandma's chamomile teas without overthinking it! For the Luna Kids gummies, I'd check if the study used similar dosages. Also, mixed berry flavor sounds fun—might make bedtime easier, haha. Keep it casual and observe your kid's response, I'd say.

Thanks Noah and Ivy! Noah, good point about the funding—didn't catch that, my brain's fried from work meetings. Ivy, love the nostalgic take; my mom swears by chamomile too. Maybe I'll do a trial: chamomile tea for a week, then if no improvement, try the gummies cautiously. Anyone know if Nested Naturals discloses their valerian source? Might help gauge quality.

Mila, quick check: Nested Naturals website says they use organic valerian root extract, standardized for consistency. That's a plus for transparency. Still, given the study's concerns, maybe split a gummy or start with half-dose? Less habit-forming risk that way. Keep us posted—minimalist approach often wins in the long run.
