Traveling with Luna Kids Sleep Gummies - Do they melt? TSA rules?
Hey everyone, planning a trip with my 6-year-old who uses Nested Naturals Luna Kids Sleep Gummies for bedtime. We're flying, then road tripping, and maybe some hiking. Worried about these gummies melting in a hot car or suitcase. Also, what's the deal with TSA - are melatonin gummies okay to bring on a plane? Any storage tips to keep them fresh while traveling? Thanks!
As a night shift worker who travels a lot for work, I've taken these on planes before. TSA doesn't care about melatonin gummies - they're not a controlled substance. Just keep them in original bottle with label. For melting, yeah they can get sticky if left in hot car. I throw mine in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack when driving. On planes, keep in carry-on so they don't freeze in checked luggage.
omg the mixed berry flavor is so good, but heat totally ruins the texture! They get all mushy and lose that perfect chew. I took some on a road trip last summer and left them in the glove box - big mistake. Now I always use a hard-sided container (like an empty mints tin) inside a cooler bag. The taste stays perfect that way! Also TSA never even looked twice at mine.
Honestly why are you giving a kid melatonin while traveling? Their sleep schedule will already be off. These 'natural' supplements aren't FDA approved and valerian root can interact with other meds. If you must bring them, at least keep them in original packaging so if there's an issue, medical personnel can see what's in them. And yes, they'll melt - most gummies do above 80°F.
Med student here. For transport: 1) TSA allows melatonin supplements in reasonable quantities (60 gummies is fine). 2) Melting point is around 95-100°F depending on formulation. 3) Best practice: store in original container, keep in cool dry place (not glove box or trunk). For hiking, use insulated container. Note that valerian root and lemon balm in these are generally safe but consult pediatrician about travel use. Safe travels!
