Traveling with OLLY Prenatal Gummies - Melt Risk? TSA? Tips?
Hey all! I'm heading out on a 6-hour road trip then a short hike to some remote cabins. I just started taking OLLY Prenatal Gummies (the Citrus Berry ones, love them!). But I'm worried they'll melt in the car/backpack, and I also need to fly back - do I need to worry about TSA rules? They're gummies, not liquids, but I've heard weird stories. Any tips for transporting these without a sticky mess? Thanks!
I've carried gummies through TSA plenty of times (not prenatal, but similar texture). They're solid, so no issue with the liquid rule. Just keep them in the original container, or any bottle - they won't care. But melting is a real concern, especially in a hot car. I'd suggest packing them in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if you'll be out in the heat for hours. Or, at least keep them in your carry-on near the top where it's cooler. For hiking, I'd put them in a small pill container or zip-lock, but beware - if they get warm, they'll squash together. You might want to keep them in your pack's top pocket and not near a water bottle that's been in the sun. Also, if they do melt, refrigerating them helps them harden back up, though they might look a bit weird.
I'm a mom who's flown with these exact gummies multiple times (and also driven across states). TSA is a non-issue - they're solid, so just put them in your carry-on or personal item. BUT, yes, they can melt if left in a hot car for too long. I once left my bag in the car during a summer day (oops) and they became a blob. Not fun. My pro tip: bring a small insulated pouch (like for baby food) and a little reusable ice pack. For flying, you can also just put them in your carry-on and they'll be fine - the cabin is climate controlled. For hiking, I'd transfer a few days' worth into a small pill holder and keep it in a pocket close to your body - body heat might actually keep them soft, but not melt unless it's scorching. Also, if you're worried about them sticking together, you can dust them with a bit of cornstarch or powdered sugar. But honestly, the original bottle is sturdy enough if you keep it out of direct sun. Safe travels!
Good point about the pill holder - that's what I do for day hikes. But remember, if you bring a separate pill container, TSA might want to inspect it if it's not clearly labeled. So if you're flying with a pill container, it's best to keep the original bottle as backup or ensure the pills are identifiable. I just keep the whole bottle in my carry-on and it's never been questioned. Also, for the road trip, if you have a cooler, keep them in there - they won't melt. And avoid leaving them in the glove compartment (my mistake once...).
Thanks everyone! I'll definitely use an insulated pouch and keep them in my carry-on for the flight. And for hiking, I'll bring just enough for the day in a small container. Also appreciate the tip about not leaving them in the car - I'll be sure to bring them with me when we stop. You guys rock!
