THREAD: My Olly Sleep Gummies Changed Color/Texture - Still Safe?Started by OP

Hey all, I've been using the Olly Extra Strength Sleep gummies for a few months now and just opened a new bottle. They look different than usual - some have whitish spots (like sugar bloom?) and they're kinda hard/sticky, not soft like before. They're also clumping together in the jar. The expiration date is still good. Has anyone else seen this? Are they safe to eat or should I toss them?

lol welcome to my world - I've had this happen with my caffeine gummies too when I left them in my car on a hot day. The sugar bloom (those white spots) is usually just moisture/sugar crystallization, not harmful. But if they're rock hard, they might not taste great. I'd still eat them if I needed the melatonin tho... desperate times when you're wired at 2am! Maybe contact Olly customer service?

From a safety perspective, texture changes like hardening or clumping are typically due to moisture loss or temperature fluctuations affecting the gelatin/sugar matrix. Unless there's visible mold (unlikely with proper preservatives), they're probably safe chemically. However, degraded texture might indicate compromised stability - the melatonin or botanicals could lose potency over time if not stored properly. I'd recommend storing in a cool, dry place and consider replacing if they're excessively hard.

Dude I travel with these constantly and this happens ALL THE TIME when they get squished in my backpack or sit in different climates. They still work fine for sleep IME. The blackberry flavor might be weird if they're crystallized but the melatonin should be intact. Pro tip: keep the silica gel packet in the bottle if it came with one! If you're worried, maybe take an extra half gummy to compensate for any potency loss?

Not surprised - these have what, 3g sugar per serving? Sugar attracts moisture. As someone who avoids sugar, I switched to capsule sleep aids for this exact reason. That said, texture changes don't mean unsafe, just unappealing. If they smell off or have an unusual color (not just white spots), toss them. Otherwise probably fine but maybe invest in airtight storage if you keep buying gummy versions.
