THREAD: Saw a study on melatonin - is OLLY's 5mg dose legit or just marketing hype?Started by KetoKevin627

Hey everyone, just stumbled on this study (PMID: 12345678) about melatonin supplements. It says doses over 3mg might not improve sleep quality more than lower doses, and could cause next-day grogginess. I've been using OLLY Extra Strength Sleep Gummies with 5mg melatonin for months while traveling between time zones. Now I'm wondering if the 'extra strength' label is legit or if they're just jacking up the dose for marketing. Anyone else read this or have thoughts?

Interesting find, Kevin! Reminds me of the old days when we'd just brew chamomile tea from the garden—no fancy gummies needed, haha. But seriously, I've seen conflicting stuff on melatonin too. That study might have a point about higher doses, but OLLY also has L-theanine and botanicals like chamomile extract, which could synergize. I take them occasionally when my blogging schedule gets hectic, and they help without much grogginess for me. Maybe it's the combo, not just the melatonin dose?

As a keto believer, I'm always skeptical of gummies due to sugar content—OLLY's have 2g per serving, which isn't ideal for metabolic health. But on the melatonin: studies can be biased depending on funding sources. Did that one mention who sponsored it? In my experience, 5mg works fine for occasional use, but I stick to lower doses most nights to avoid dependency. Maybe try cycling off or using the L-theanine separately if you're worried?

Good points! SolarSam, the combo angle makes sense—I do feel the chamomile and lemon balm add a calming effect beyond just melatonin. Vince, the study was university-funded, so seems less biased, but yeah, sugar's a concern. I might cut back to half a gummy (2.5mg) and see how it goes. Anyone else tweak their OLLY routine based on research?

Totally—I sometimes take just one gummy instead of two if I don't need the full dose. Also, blackberry flavor is nostalgic for me, like summer berries from my childhood, so that's a bonus! But back to science: maybe share the link here so we can all peek? Always good to crowd-source the analysis. Thanks for bringing this up, Kevin!
