Hey all! I tried making my own gummy vitamins at home using gelatin and some vitamin C powder. I followed a recipe I found online but they came out super chewy and almost rubbery. Also, they tasted awful – kinda bitter. Any tips on how to get a better texture and mask the taste? I'm using agar and gelatin mix, but not sure what went wrong. Thanks!

Hey! I'm all about sugar-free, so I've had my fair share of gummy fails. The rubbery texture is often from too much gelatin or not enough liquid. Try reducing gelatin by 25% and increase the liquid. Also, that bitter taste is probably from the vitamin powder – try using a flavored powder or add a bit of stevia and citric acid to balance. If you're using agar, it sets differently – it needs to be boiled, and it can get tough if overcooked. Good luck!

Honestly, why not just buy OLLY probiotics? They already taste good and work. I tried DIY once, and the mess wasn't worth it. But if you insist, keep it simple: use fruit juice instead of water for flavor, and add a little honey or maple syrup for sweetness. Also, let them set in the fridge, not at room temp. That helped mine.

As a med student, I'd caution against high doses of certain vitamins in homemade gummies – you might not get accurate dosing. But for texture, the issue is likely that you didn't bloom the gelatin properly or you cooked it too long. For agar, you need to bring it to a full boil to activate it. Also, add your vitamin powder after the mixture cools slightly to preserve potency. To mask bitterness, try using a flavored electrolyte powder or a drop of orange extract. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I'll try reducing gelatin and adding some stevia and maybe a bit of lemon juice. I might also switch to using fruit juice. Appreciate the input – I'll try again this weekend!
