Traveling with OLLY Probiotic Gummies: Melt Risk & TSA?
Hey all, heading out on a 6-hour flight + road trip combo next week, and I want to bring my OLLY Probiotic gummies to keep my gut happy. Question: do these things melt in a hot car or in my carry-on? And any TSA issues with gummy supplements? I've heard mixed things. Tips appreciated!
I've traveled with those! They are pretty stable, but I've had them get a bit soft in a hot car in the summer. They didn't completely melt, just got sticky and clumped together. To avoid that, I use a small insulated pouch or even a mini cooler for the gummies if I'm leaving them in the car. But in your carry-on, the cabin temp is fine. TSA-wise, they are not a gel or liquid, so just leave them in the original bottle – I've never had a problem. Just don't pack them in a checked bag in extreme heat if possible.
Seconding what Mila said about TSA – I've flown with them multiple times in my personal item, no issues. But for road trips, I've learned the hard way: keep them in the passenger compartment with A/C, not in the trunk. And if you're hiking, put them in a ziplock inside your pack – they can get squished in a backpack. Also, if they do get warm and sticky, you can pop them in the fridge for 20 mins to firm them up again. Not a big deal.
Thanks both! The fridge trick is smart. I'll do the insulated pouch idea for the car. Since I'm flying first, I'll keep them in my carry-on and then transfer to the pouch for the road. Good to know they don't need special TSA treatment. Any experience with them lasting through a long hike? I'm talking 8+ hours in a hot backpack.
I've done a whole day hike with them in my pack, but it was not super hot (maybe 70s). They got a little soft but held shape. If it's extra hot, definitely store near your water bottle or in a cooler pocket. And maybe take a few extra just in case some get ruined. Better safe than sorry! Have a great trip!
