THREAD: DIY sleep gummies gone wrong - help with my homemade melatonin batch!Started by OP

Hey everyone, I tried making my own sleep gummies at home to save some cash instead of buying OLLY's. Used gelatin, some melatonin powder (3mg per gummy target), L-theanine, and chamomile extract. But they came out super rubbery and the flavor is off - kinda bitter? Anyone have a good recipe or tips? I'm wondering if I overheated the mixture or if my agar/gelatin ratio was wrong...

Hi there! As a yoga instructor, I appreciate your intention to create something mindful at home. 🌿 When I made mine, I found that adding the supplements at the right temperature is key - too hot and they degrade, especially melatonin. Try mixing your powders into a small amount of cool liquid first, then gently fold into the gelatin after it's slightly cooled. Also, a touch of raw honey can balance bitterness! Have you tried adding lemon balm like OLLY does? It might help with the flavor profile.

Minimalist here. Why complicate it? OLLY works, 60 count lasts a month, done. But if you insist: less ingredients = less fail points. Skip extracts, just do gelatin + melatonin + a splash of blackberry juice for flavor. Heat gently, pour, cool. Overthinking causes rubbery texture. Also, measure everything precisely - eyeballing powders will mess up consistency.

Omigosh I've been there! 😅 As a fellow yoga teacher, I love DIY wellness projects. My first batch was a disaster too - they melted at room temp! I found that using a mix of gelatin and a tiny bit of agar helps them hold shape better. Also, are you using flavored melatonin powder? If it's unflavored, that bitterness might be from the chamomile. Try steeping chamomile tea instead of extract for a smoother taste. And maybe add a vitamin C powder to preserve them? Let us know how round 2 goes!
