THREAD: SmartSweets Peach Rings Discontinued? My low-sugar snack stash is running out!Started by WellnessWendy

Hey everyone, I just noticed my usual order of SmartSweets Peach Rings got cancelled and the product page says 'discontinued'! As a fitness coach, I've been recommending these to clients for years as a great low-sugar treat option. At only 3g of sugar and 130 calories per pack, they were perfect for satisfying sweet cravings without derailing nutrition goals. Has anyone found a good replacement? I'm especially concerned about finding something that's still gluten-free and doesn't use artificial sweeteners that upset people's stomachs.

Oh no, this is terrible news! I work night shifts at the hospital and these were my go-to snack during those 2 AM slumps. The 3g sugar meant I didn't get that crazy energy spike and crash like with regular candy, and the peach flavor actually tasted decent. The packaging variation thing was annoying though - sometimes the bags looked completely different. Anyone know why they discontinued them? Were they not selling well, or is there some ingredient issue?

Honestly, I won't miss them that much. As someone who's really picky about taste and texture, I found the SmartSweets Peach Rings to be... underwhelming. Yes, they were low in sugar, but they had that weird aftertaste that a lot of sugar-alternative products have. The texture was too firm, not like real gummy candy at all. I'd rather have one really good peach ring made with real sugar than a whole bag of these. Has anyone tried making their own low-sugar gummies? I've been experimenting with gelatin and monk fruit sweetener.

I'm skeptical about the whole 'low sugar' candy trend anyway. As a mom, I'd rather my kids learn to enjoy fruit for sweetness instead of engineered treats. That said, I did buy these occasionally for birthday party treat bags when other parents were being strict about sugar. The 130 calories isn't bad, but I always wondered about the other ingredients - what are they using to make them sweet if not sugar? And 'packaging may vary' always made me nervous about possible formula changes. Maybe this discontinuation is a blessing in disguise - time to get back to real food!

BioBob, I hear you on the texture issue - they definitely weren't like traditional gummies. But for my clients who are transitioning away from high-sugar diets, they served a purpose. HealthHacker, I appreciate your real-food approach, but sometimes people need a bridge product while changing habits. PurePete - I heard through industry contacts that SmartSweets is reformulating their entire line, not just discontinuing. Something about improving the taste and texture while keeping the low sugar profile. No timeline on when new products might launch though.

Thanks for the info, Wendy! That gives me some hope. In the meantime, has anyone tried the Albanese brand low-sugar gummies? I saw them at the store yesterday but didn't buy because I still had some SmartSweets left. Bob, your homemade gummy idea sounds interesting but after a 12-hour shift, I barely have energy to microwave dinner, let alone make candy from scratch! Maybe I'll just switch to dried peaches for now...
