THREAD: SmartSweets Peach Rings - Discontinued? Any good alternatives for low-sugar cravings?Started by JoyfulJack

Hey everyone, I just stumbled upon these SmartSweets Peach Rings while browsing online. As a nature photographer, I'm always on the go and need quick snacks that won't spike my energy levels during long shoots. Has anyone here actually tried them? I'm curious about the taste - do they really satisfy that gummy craving without all the sugar? And I noticed they're discontinued - does that mean they're being replaced with something better, or were they just not popular?

Jack, I bought a pack last year when I was experimenting with low-sugar desserts for my cooking blog. Honestly, the texture was decent - not quite like traditional gummies but close enough. The peach flavor was a bit artificial for my taste though. As an amateur chef, I'd say they're okay in a pinch, but you could probably make something similar at home with gelatin, peach puree, and a sugar substitute. The 3g of sugar is impressive, but at 130 calories per serving, they're not exactly 'light' if you're watching portions. Anyone know why they got discontinued? Quality issues maybe?

I used to keep these in my gym bag! As someone who trains 5-6 days a week, they were perfect for a post-workout treat when I wanted something sweet but didn't want to ruin my macros. The 3g sugar and gluten-free aspect worked well with my diet. The taste grew on me - not amazing, but better than most 'healthy' candies. Really bummed they're gone! Does anyone have recommendations for similar low-sugar gummies that are actually available? Preferably something with clean ingredients and not loaded with artificial sweeteners.

OH I have SO many thoughts on these! As a self-proclaimed health candy enthusiast, I've tried nearly every low-sugar gummy on the market. SmartSweets Peach Rings were actually one of the better ones - decent texture, okay flavor, and the nutrition facts were legit. The discontinuation is probably due to supply chain issues or rebranding (packaging may vary, remember?). My advice: check local health food stores for remaining stock, or try their other flavors if available. For alternatives, I'd recommend Project 7 or SmartSweets' other lines - just watch the sugar alcohols if you have a sensitive stomach!

Thanks for the insights everyone! Olivia, I'm with you on the clean ingredients - that's important for my outdoor lifestyle. Guru, you mentioned sugar alcohols - were these particularly problematic with the Peach Rings? I've had some... digestive adventures with other sugar-free candies during photography trips, and that's the last thing I need when I'm miles from civilization! Maybe I'll try to find a remaining pack just to taste-test, but sounds like I shouldn't get too attached if they're being phased out.

Jack, to answer your question about sugar alcohols - they used soluble corn fiber (tapioca syrup too) which can definitely cause issues if you eat too many! Moderation is key. Since we're on the topic of discontinuation, I wonder if this is part of a larger trend. The healthy candy market seems to change every few months. Maybe they're reformulating? Olivia, for your post-workout needs, have you considered making your own with grass-fed gelatin? I have a recipe that uses stevia and real fruit juice - much cleaner than anything store-bought. I could share it if anyone's interested!
