My gummies turned hard and white-ish - still safe to eat? 😰
Hey all, I've been taking these turmeric gummies for a month and they were great. But I just opened a new bottle and the gummies are kinda hard, and they look like they have a white film on them – is that mold?? Also, a few are stuck together. Are they safe to eat? They smell normal though. Help! 😬
Yo, that's just sugar bloom or crystallization - happens with gelatin gummies. They're safe. The white stuff is just sugar pulling out. Hardness? Could be old or stored improperly. If they're not rock hard, I'd eat 'em. But if they're like bricks, toss 'em. I've had that happen with my protein bars - no biggie.
I agree with WaterWillow. It's just sugar blooming. But to be safe, check for any off smells or sticky spots that turn dark. If they pass the sniff test, you're fine. Maybe store them in the fridge to slow down changes. I do that with my gummies. Also, stuck together? Just gently pull apart - if they're too hard, a quick warm (not hot) blast can soften them. Namaste.
From a tech angle, it's like the gummies underwent a phase change. Heat and humidity can cause sugar to recrystallize. If you're worried, contact the company - they often have batch info. I once had a batch that did that and they sent me a replacement. Safe? Probably, but if it tastes weird, don't risk it. Also check the manufacture date on the bottle - maybe they're old.
Thanks all! I never thought about the fridge. I live in a warm climate, so that might be it. They don't smell bad, so I'll probably try one. If it's not crushed candy, I'll keep 'em. Appreciate the help!
