THREAD: My B12 gummies look weird - are they still safe to eat?Started by OP

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I bought these B12 gummy vitamins a couple months ago and they've been sitting in my kitchen cabinet. Just opened them today and noticed they look different - some have white spots on them (like sugar bloom maybe?), others are kinda hard and stuck together. They smell fine, but I'm worried about eating them. Has this happened to anyone else? Are they still safe to take?

OMG yes this happens all the time with gummies! Don't worry, it's totally normal and safe! The white spots are just sugar bloom from humidity changes - it's literally just sugar crystals forming on the surface. The hardening/sticking is usually from temperature fluctuations. As long as they don't smell rancid or have mold (which would be super rare), your B12 is still perfectly effective! I've eaten gummies like this for years and my energy levels are through the roof! 🌟 Just store them somewhere cooler and drier next time!

Ursula's right about the safety aspect, but this is actually a great example of why we need better packaging! All that plastic waste and these gummies still degrade because of moisture. Have you considered switching to B12 drops or tablets? Zero waste and they last forever without these issues. But yeah, your gummies are probably fine - just nature doing its thing. Maybe check the expiration date though?

As someone who experiments with homemade supplements, I can confirm this is normal! The sugar bloom happens when the gummies absorb moisture then dry out - it's like what happens to chocolate sometimes. The sticking together is just the gelatin/pectin getting tacky. Pro tip: if they're too hard, you can actually soften them by putting them in a container with a slice of bread overnight (the bread gives off moisture). But honestly, they're almost certainly safe unless they smell off or are way past expiration.
