Is B12 supplementation really necessary or just another health fad?

Hey everyone! As a parent who's always trying to keep things natural for my family, I've been wondering about B12 supplements. We eat mostly plant-based at home (lots of homemade granola and veggie bowls), and I've heard vegans can be deficient. But I'm skeptical about synthetic vitamins - does anyone know if there are good food-based sources? My kids are picky eaters, so I'd love some advice from other parents who've navigated this!

Great topic! As someone who's all about flavor and quality ingredients, I've actually experimented with B12-rich foods. Nutritional yeast is my secret weapon - adds a cheesy, umami punch to everything from popcorn to pasta. But here's my question: I eat meat occasionally (a perfectly seared steak is life!), so do I even need supplements? My doctor said my levels were fine last checkup, but all these wellness influencers make it sound like everyone should be taking it. Thoughts?

Digital nomad chiming in! I've been traveling through Southeast Asia for 6 months, and my energy has been dragging lately. Started taking a B12 spray a month ago, and WOW - the difference is noticeable! No more 3pm crashes when I'm trying to work from beach cafes. But I'm curious: has anyone else experienced this quick boost? And what about those sublingual tablets vs. sprays vs. injections? The options are overwhelming when you're trying to pack light!

Fitness pro here! B12 is crucial for energy metabolism and red blood cell formation - it's not just hype. Many of my clients (especially endurance athletes) benefit from supplementation. @OrganicOlivia: For plant-based folks, fortified nutritional yeast and some algae products can help, but absorption varies. @BioBob: Even meat-eaters can have issues if they have absorption problems or take certain medications. My advice? Get tested first, then supplement strategically. Anyone tried methylcobalamin vs cyanocobalamin?

CrossFit junkie checking in! I've been taking B12 for years - helps with recovery between WODs. But here's my controversial take: I think some people overdo it. My gym buddy takes like 5000mcg daily and swears by it, but that seems excessive? Also, has anyone noticed if timing matters? I take mine pre-workout, but my coach says post-workout is better for recovery. Would love to hear what other athletes are doing!
