THREAD: My toddler thinks my collagen gummies are candy - hilarious/terrifying story!Started by QuartzQuinn258

Okay so I need to vent/share this before I panic lol. My 4-year-old found my 'beauty gummies' (the ones with biotin & collagen) in my purse yesterday. I caught him with the bottle open, happily munching away saying 'yummy candy mommy!' He'd eaten like 5 before I noticed! Called poison control just in case - they said he'd be fine but might have some extra energy. Now he keeps asking for 'mommy's special candy' and I'm hiding them in the spice cabinet. Anyone else have kids who think supplements are treats? How do you keep them safe without making them seem even more desirable?

OMG that's both adorable and terrifying! My husband did something similar with my sleep gummies last month - thought they were 'grown-up gummies' and took two before bed. He was OUT cold for 10 hours and woke up confused why he was so groggy. I've started storing all my supplements in opaque containers in the pantry now, labeled with masking tape. Maybe try putting yours in an old vitamin bottle or something boring-looking? Kids are drawn to colorful bottles!

The texture thing is real though! My niece refuses to take any gummy vitamins because she says they're 'too chewy' and not like her fruit snacks. She calls them 'fake candy' lol. Have you tried the brands with softer texture? The SugarBearHair ones melt faster imo. But seriously - childproof caps aren't always kid-proof! Maybe try a lockbox? Also, flavor matters - if they taste too medicinal, kids won't want them anyway.

Data point: Most gummy supplements contain 2-8g sugar per serving. Kids' taste receptors are primed for sweetness. Your brain's reward pathways light up similarly for sugar and certain textures. Practical solution: Get a timed lockbox (Amazon has them for $25). Anecdote: My partner thought my nootropic gummies were 'weird jelly beans' - ate 3 and said his focus was 'too sharp' for hours. Biohack: Store with bitter-tasting items (like coffee beans) to create negative association if opened.

Thanks everyone! The lockbox idea is smart - ordering one now. @HubermanHopeful the opaque container trick is genius, I have an old oatmeal canister that would work. @BerryBen he actually LOVES the texture (of course) which is the problem! @XenonX the sugar content freaks me out too - maybe I should switch to capsules. Appreciate the reassurance that I'm not the only one dealing with this!
