THREAD: Elderberry gummies: healthy supplement or just candy in disguise?Started by KetoKevin

Ugh, just looked at the nutrition label on my elderberry gummies and they have 8g of sugar per serving! That's insane for something marketed as a supplement. I'm trying to stay low-carb while traveling, and this feels like the 'candy-fication' of health products. Are we just fooling ourselves with these sugary treats?

I feel you Kevin, but as someone who works night shifts, I gotta say the convenience is huge. After a 12-hour shift, I'm exhausted and the last thing I want is to measure out powders or swallow pills. The gummies are the only way I remember to take my elderberry regularly. Yeah they have sugar, but if it means I actually take my supplements, isn't that worth it?

Interesting discussion! From my yoga practice perspective, I believe in being mindful about what we put in our bodies. I switched from gummies to elderberry syrup because I can control the sweetener (I use local honey). The gummy form does feel like it blurs the line between medicine and treat. Maybe we need to ask ourselves: are we taking these for health or because they taste good?

As a holistic healer, I see both sides! The sugar content in commercial gummies IS concerning - often it's corn syrup or artificial sweeteners that disrupt gut health. But the delivery method matters! I make my own elderberry gummies with minimal raw honey and gelatin for joint benefits. The issue isn't gummies themselves, but what companies put in them. We shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Guru, that homemade approach sounds better, but most of us don't have time for that! Mila's point hits home - maybe I AM just enjoying the candy aspect. DewyDaphne, I get the convenience factor, but at what cost? Maybe I'll look for sugar-free options or just go back to capsules. This thread got me thinking more than I expected!
