THREAD: Traveling with Kids Gummies - Do They Melt? TSA Rules?Started by LunarLily

Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip with my kids next week - we're flying to visit family and then doing some hiking. I always give them their daily gummy vitamins (the ones with vitamin C and D), but I'm worried about them melting in my bag or getting confiscated at security. Has anyone traveled with gummies before? Do they hold up okay in heat? And what about TSA rules - are gummy vitamins allowed in carry-ons? Thanks for any tips! ✈️

Great question LunarLily! As a gummy enthusiast who travels frequently, I can confirm TSA allows gummy vitamins in both carry-on and checked bags - they're considered supplements, not liquids/gels. I've flown with my daily gummies dozens of times, no issues! As for melting: most quality gummies have stabilizers that prevent melting at room temp, but extreme heat (like leaving them in a hot car) can make them sticky. Pro tip: store them in their original container or a ziplock bag, and keep them in your carry-on where temp is controlled. Happy travels!

Marathon runner here - I take gummies on all my trips for quick nutrition! From experience: they won't melt during normal travel, but hiking in hot weather is different. Last summer mine got fused together in my backpack during a 10-mile trail run 😅 My advice: use a small insulated lunch bag or cooler pouch if you'll be outdoors in heat. Also, TSA has never questioned my gummies, but I keep them in original packaging just in case. For hiking, portion them into daily packs so you're not opening the main container in dusty conditions.

Thanks both! GummyGuru123 that's reassuring about TSA, and CrystalCathy the insulated pouch idea is genius - I'll grab one for our hiking days. Follow-up question: do you think airport X-ray machines affect the gummies' potency? I read somewhere that supplements can degrade with radiation exposure but not sure if that's just hype...

Ooh good question! The X-ray exposure during security screening is minimal and brief - studies show it doesn't significantly degrade supplements. The bigger concern is prolonged heat exposure. If you're really worried, you could put the gummies in a separate bin so they get less direct X-ray time, but honestly I've never noticed any difference. More important: check expiration dates before traveling! Nothing worse than discovering your gummies expired mid-trip 😂 Safe travels with your little ones!
