THREAD: UK warning about melatonin in kids' gummies - anyone else worried?Started by OP

Hey everyone, just saw this article and thought it was important to share here. # UK Regulator Warns of Melatonin in Children’s Gummies
A recent warning from the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) highlights a critical issue for parents who rely on dietary supplements for their kids. Apparently some children's gummy vitamins are being sold with melatonin in them without proper labeling or regulation. Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate sleep, and giving it to kids without medical supervision can be risky.
What do you all think? Has anyone here given their kids melatonin gummies? I'm starting to second-guess everything in my pantry now.

This is exactly why I've always stuck with traditional vitamins from reputable pharmacies. These newfangled gummy supplements with added sleep aids, mood boosters, and who-knows-what-else are playing with fire. When I was raising my children, we gave them plain chewable vitamins and focused on proper bedtime routines - no hormones needed. Parents today need to read labels carefully and consult their pediatricians, not just grab what looks tasty off the shelf.

Whoa, this is concerning! I sometimes give my kids those 'sleep support' gummies when we're traveling or after a particularly wild weekend (soccer tournaments, birthday parties, you know the drill). I never really thought about melatonin being a hormone - just figured it was like a natural sleep aid. Now I'm gonna check the bottles when I get home. Anyone know which brands to avoid? Might need to switch back to the basic multivitamin gummies without extras.

omg this is scary! I just started giving my 8-year-old some 'calm & sleep' gummies from a wellness brand I found online. The packaging said 'all natural' so I thought it was safe. Now I'm freaking out a bit. Should I stop immediately? Are there withdrawal effects? I thought I was helping her wind down before bed since she's always on her tablet. Maybe I should try meditation apps with her instead of supplements...

LunarLily, yes you should stop immediately and consult your child's doctor. 'All natural' doesn't mean 'safe for children' - arsenic is natural too. These companies prey on parents looking for quick fixes. Go back to basics: consistent bedtime, no screens an hour before sleep, maybe some warm milk. Your grandmother didn't need melatonin gummies, and neither do today's children with proper parenting.
