THREAD: Are multivitamin gummies actually effective for active lifestyles?Started by CrystalCathy

Hey everyone! As a marathon runner, I'm always looking for ways to optimize my nutrition without adding extra hassle. I've been seeing ads for multivitamin gummies everywhere lately - they look so much more appealing than swallowing pills after long training runs. Has anyone here tried them? Do they actually provide the same nutrients as traditional vitamins, or is this just clever marketing? I'm specifically concerned about getting enough iron and B-vitamins for recovery.

Cathy, I feel you on this! I've been using a gummy multivitamin for about 3 months now. The convenience is amazing - I can just toss them in my gym bag and take them whenever. But honestly, I'm not sure if they're doing much. My energy levels feel about the same, and I still get those occasional muscle cramps during long runs. The sugar content worries me too - my brand has 3g per serving. Are we just paying extra for candy with a vitamin label?

Great discussion! As a fitness professional, I've researched this extensively. The key is quality - not all gummies are created equal. Look for ones with third-party testing (like NSF or USP verified) and check the actual nutrient amounts. Many gummies skimp on minerals like zinc and magnesium that runners really need. Also, the gelatin-based ones often have better absorption than pectin-based. I recommend taking them with a small fat source (like nuts) for optimal fat-soluble vitamin absorption. Anyone have specific brands they're curious about?

Digital nomad checking in from Bali! I tried gummy vitamins last year but had to stop - the sugar alcohols messed with my digestion during long work sessions. Plus, most aren't keto-friendly at all. Has anyone found low-carb options that actually work? I travel constantly and need something that won't melt in my backpack or require refrigeration. Traditional capsules always end up crushed at the bottom of my bag...

Thanks for the insights everyone! VibeVitamins - that tip about taking with fat is really helpful. I've been taking mine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Kevin, I feel your pain about travel - my regular vitamins always get stuck in TSA screening! EarthElias, which brand were you using? Maybe we need to compare labels. I'm looking at one called 'Active Gummies' that claims to have extra electrolytes - sounds perfect for runners but I'm skeptical about the claims.

Kevin, there ARE some keto-friendly options emerging! Look for brands sweetened with monk fruit or stevia instead of sugar alcohols. They're usually more expensive though. Cathy - be careful with those 'Active Gummies' - I checked that brand and they have 8g of sugar per serving! That's almost 2 teaspoons. For runners, you're better off with a quality electrolyte supplement plus a separate multivitamin. The combo products often compromise on both. Anyone want me to share my spreadsheet comparing top brands?
