THREAD: Traveling with Omega-3 Gummies - Do They Melt? TSA Tips?Started by OP

Hey everyone! Planning a trip next month - mix of flying, road tripping, and some hiking. I take omega-3 gummies daily and don't want to skip them. Worried they might melt in my bag during travel. Also, what's the deal with TSA? Can I just toss them in my carry-on? Any storage tips for keeping them fresh on the go? Thanks!

Great question! From a materials perspective, most gummy vitamins have a melting point around 95-105°F (35-40°C) - so yes, they can soften or melt in a hot car or direct sunlight. The gelatin/pectin matrix breaks down. For TSA: no liquid restrictions apply since they're solids, but keep them in original labeled containers to avoid questions. Pro tip: store them with silica gel packets to prevent moisture absorption during humidity changes at altitude!

lol i learned this the hard way on a road trip last summer - left my omega-3 gummies in the glove box and came back to a sticky mess! Now I always use a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if I'm driving. For hiking, I put them in a ziplock inside my hydration pack where it's cooler. TSA has never stopped me, but I agree with AlphaAdam about keeping the original bottle. Maybe toss in some dark chocolate chips too for a snack? ;)

As a fitness pro who travels constantly: NEVER check them in luggage - cargo holds get freezing then hot! Always carry-on. I use a reusable silicone pouch (eco-friendly!) and keep it in the center of my backpack away from edges. For hiking, morning temps are best - take them before you head out. Hydration is key too - omega-3s work better when you're well hydrated during travel. Safe travels!
