THREAD: Omega-3 supplements: Life-changing or just another health fad?Started by SolarSam

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Back in the day, we just ate fish and didn't think twice about it. Now there are all these fancy supplements with different ratios and sources. I started taking fish oil capsules about 6 months ago after my doctor mentioned it might help with joint stiffness (getting older isn't for the weak!). Honestly, I haven't noticed dramatic changes, but my morning stiffness seems a bit better. Has anyone else tried them for joint health? And what's the deal with krill oil vs. regular fish oil - is it really worth the extra money?

SolarSam, I track everything with my health apps and wearables! I've been taking algae-based Omega-3 (I'm vegan) for about a year now. The data shows my resting heart rate dropped by 4 bpm after 3 months, and my sleep scores improved slightly. But here's my question for the tech-savvy folks: Are there any smart pill bottles or tracking apps specifically for supplements? I want to optimize my timing and dosage based on my biometrics. Also, has anyone tried those new emulsified formulas that supposedly absorb better?

As a marathon runner, Omega-3s are non-negotiable for me! The anti-inflammatory benefits are crucial for recovery. I take 2g daily of high-EPA fish oil and definitely notice reduced muscle soreness after long runs. Frank, I use a basic pill tracker app, but nothing fancy. My question for the group: Does anyone know if timing matters? I've heard taking them with meals improves absorption, but should I take them before or after workouts? Also, be careful with cheaper brands - some can have oxidation issues. Always check the freshness date!

I'm new to all this - just started meditating and trying to improve my focus. My yoga instructor mentioned Omega-3s might help with brain fog. I bought some from Costco but honestly, I keep forgetting to take them! 😅 Do they really make a difference for concentration and mood? The bottles make big claims about supporting brain health, but I'm skeptical. Are there any noticeable mental benefits, or is this mostly preventive/long-term? Also, any tips for remembering to take them daily?

As a parent, I give my kids Nordic Naturals children's Omega-3 gummies (they love them!). We've been using them for 2 years and I swear it's helped with my daughter's focus in school. Bob, set a phone reminder! That's what worked for me. Important question for parents: What age did you start your kids on supplements? My pediatrician said 2+, but I've seen some formulas for infants. Also, for the environmentally conscious - which brands have the best sustainability practices? I worry about overfishing.
