THREAD: My toddler thinks my sleep gummies are candy - help!Started by OP

Okay, so I started taking these melatonin sleep gummies to help with my insomnia after having my second kid. My 4-year-old son saw the bottle on the counter yesterday and goes 'Mama, candy!' before I could stop him. He grabbed one and popped it in his mouth before I could grab it. Thankfully it was just one and he was fine (just extra sleepy at 3pm lol), but now he keeps asking for 'purple candy' and I'm worried he'll try to get into them again. Anyone else deal with this? They DO look exactly like gummy bears!

Oh dear, that's concerning! First, I'd recommend switching to a liquid melatonin tincture - much safer around kids and you can control the dosage better. The synthetic gummies often have artificial colors (that purple dye!) and sugars that aren't ideal anyway. Have you tried chamomile tea instead? As for your little one, maybe try making him some homemade fruit gummies with natural juice so he has his own 'special treat' that's actually good for him. Blessings!

lol been there! My wife takes sleep gummies and our dog got into them once - $500 vet bill later... Now we keep ALL supplements in a locked cabinet. As a night shift worker, I need my sleep aids but safety first. Maybe try putting them in a pill organizer or something less appealing? The gummy form is convenient but def looks like candy to kids.

Not a parent but my gym buddy's kid did this with his protein gummies once. Kid ate like 5 of them and was bouncing off the walls from the caffeine! Honestly, I'd just get regular melatonin pills - less tempting for kids. Or get one of those childproof containers from the pharmacy. Gummies are basically candy with supplements added, so no surprise kids want them. Gotta keep that supplement game safe!

Thanks everyone! @EcoEllen I might try the tea, though not sure it'll be strong enough for my insomnia. @PurePete LOCKED CABINET - genius, why didn't I think of that? @IvyIron Yeah you're right, they're basically candy. I'm going to move them today and maybe look into pills instead. Appreciate the advice!
