THREAD: Softgels vs Gummies: Are we just eating candy with vitamins?Started by PurePete

Hey all, night shift worker here. I've been trying to switch to gummy vitamins for convenience since my schedule is all over the place, but man, the sugar content is wild! Just checked my bottle - 3g of added sugar per serving. That's like eating candy and calling it health. Are we just fooling ourselves with these 'candy-fied' supplements? What happened to purity?

Pete, you're spot on. I'm a minimalist - keep it simple, keep it pure. Why add all that junk? I stick to basic softgels or tablets. No sugar, no artificial colors, no extra calories. The convenience argument doesn't hold up when you're compromising on quality. A pill takes 2 seconds to swallow. Is that really too inconvenient?

Whoa whoa, hold up! As a health nut who's tried EVERYTHING, I gotta defend gummies here. Yes, some have sugar, but there are sugar-free options with stevia or monk fruit! The key is consistency - I actually REMEMBER to take my gummies because they taste good. My softgels used to sit in the cabinet for weeks. Plus, many gummies have better absorption rates. It's about finding quality brands, not ditching the whole category!

Tom - exactly! 2 seconds vs potential health downsides. Guru - I hear you on consistency, that's why I switched in the first place. But even sugar-free ones often have artificial sweeteners that mess with my gut. And the 'candy' aspect worries me - are we teaching kids (and adults!) that vitamins should taste like dessert? Feels like we're losing the plot on what supplements should be.

Guru makes a fair point about adherence, but at what cost? If you need candy flavors to remember your health, maybe re-examine priorities. I've used simple pill organizers for years - zero sugar, zero additives. The supplement industry is capitalizing on our sweet tooth, calling it 'convenience.' Real health doesn't come in rainbow colors and gummy bear shapes.
