THREAD: Traveling with Vitamin C Gummies - Do They Melt? TSA Tips?Started by OP

Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip next week - flying to Colorado for some hiking, then a road trip through the mountains. I take vitamin C gummies daily for immune support. Has anyone traveled with these before? Do they melt in heat? What about TSA rules - can I bring them in my carry-on? Any storage tips would be awesome!

Great question! As a fitness pro who travels for competitions, I always pack my gummies. They CAN melt if left in hot cars or direct sun - learned that the hard way in Arizona last summer! My tip: keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage (cargo holds get cold but baggage areas can be hot). TSA is fine with them - they're considered supplements, not liquids. I use a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if I'm worried about heat.

Scientifically speaking, most gummy vitamins start to degrade around 86°F (30°C) and can become sticky or melt completely. The gelatin and pectin structure breaks down. For your hiking portion: avoid leaving them in a hot car! The altitude in Colorado won't affect them, but temperature will. TSA allows supplements in reasonable quantities - I'd recommend keeping them in original packaging to avoid questions. Fun fact: some studies show vitamin C stability decreases at high temps, so melting could reduce potency!

omg i had this happen on a meditation retreat road trip last month! my gummies turned into one big blob in the glove compartment 😅 it was such a vibe killer when i needed my daily dose. now i keep mine in a little ziplock in the cooler section of my backpack. also maybe check if your brand has travel packs? mine doesn't but ive seen some that do. safe travels and hope you find some peaceful hiking spots for mindfulness!

As a fitness pro who's eco-conscious: First, make sure your gummies come in sustainable packaging if possible! For travel: I agree with keeping them cool. On planes, the overhead bin stays cooler than under-seat storage. For hiking, I use a reusable silicone bag inside an insulated bottle pocket. TSA-wise, never had issues - just be prepared to possibly open the container if they scan it. Pro tip: if they do melt, you can refrigerate them to re-solidify, though texture might change. Happy trails!
